An IBCLC is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
These rare individuals are dedicated to the care of breastfeeders and their little 'feedees’ in providing individualised care based on the ‘feeders’ goals, without judgement and in partnership with the family. They are trained to assist in prevention and solving of many breastfeeding difficulties including: low milk supply or overabundant milk supply; sore or damaged nipples; babies who are not gaining weight appropriately. LC's assess and assist with breastfeeding and help set up individual plans and information for the families in their care. |
About me: |
Cath Williams
Owner: IBCLC For over 30 years, I taught about breastfeeding through antenatal classes and healthcare staff education because of the belief that it is a worthwhile cause for the emotional and physical well being of mothers and babies; families and society in general.
In 2003, I gained the IBCLC qualification and have been supporting families in the hospital and in their homes as they adjust to life with a new baby and particularly as they learn these new skills in breastfeeding and lactation. From 2003 to 2018, I set up and coordinated the BFHI program (Baby Friendly Health Initiative) at a private hospital on the Sunshine Coast, QLD: This is the World Health Organisation global criteria that sets the standards for how health facilities teach and implement their policies for breastfeeding. Membership: LCANZ-Lactation Consultants Aust and NZ ILCA-International Lactation Consultants Association Spare time might see me traveling or out in my kayak, with the sausage dog!! Core Values: CARE
